Delhi Weather

Early on Thursday, the Delhi weather was extremely wet, causing severe waterlogging and causing traffic jams throughout the city. Roads turned into rivers as vehicles struggled through flooded streets, and underpasses were nearly submerged. The heavy downpour didn’t spare the neighboring areas of Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram in the National Capital Region (NCR), which also experienced significant rainfall. According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the wet spell in Delhi-NCR is set to continue throughout the week. This ongoing downpour follows a period of stifling humidity, marking a dramatic shift in the weather.

Delhi weather: Record Rainfall in August

The Meteorological Department reported a cyclonic circulation over southeast Uttar Pradesh, with an east-west trough extending to the circulation over the east-central Bay of Bengal. Delhi’s Safdarjung observatory, the official weather station, noted a minimum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius on Thursday, three degrees below the normal range. The day before, the minimum temperature was slightly higher at 23.4 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 34 degrees Celsius. The weather office has predicted a slight rise in temperatures from today onwards. August brought an extraordinary weather pattern to Delhi, with the city recording its highest rainfall in a decade even before the month concluded. By August 22, Delhi had already received 269.9 mm of rainfall, surpassing the previous record set in August 2013, as per the IMD data.
