Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam TVK Chief Vijay honored the legacy of Periyar, the ‘father of the Dravidian movement,’ by offering floral tributes at his memorial, ‘Periyar Thidal,’ in Chennai on the occasion of his 146th birth anniversary. This significant gesture marks the first time Vijay, now a politician, has publicly paid tribute to a leader on their remembrance day.

Tamil Nadu CM and Political Leaders Join the Tribute

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also paid his respects to Periyar at Anna Salai in Chennai, further emphasizing the importance of the occasion. The DMK ally party, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, commended Vijay for this act, highlighting it as a meaningful contribution to honoring Periyar’s enduring legacy.

VCK MP Praises Vijay, BJP Leader Voices Criticism

VCK MP Thol. Thirumavalavan praised Vijay’s tribute, stating that the floral tribute to Periyar’s statue on Social Justice Day symbolized Vijay’s support for the marginalized and his vision for equality. However, BJP leader Tamilisai Soundarajan criticized Vijay, arguing that Tamil Nadu doesn’t need another party mimicking the DMK. She expressed disappointment in Vijay’s early political choices, particularly his silence on Vinayagar Chaturthi and support for the two-language policy. She pointed out that while Vijay’s films are celebrated across multiple languages for business purposes, he appears to dismiss the value of linguistic diversity for the people.

TVK Chief Vijay’s Political Journey and Vision for Tamil Nadu

Earlier this year, Vijay officially launched his political party, ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazham’ (TVK). He emphasized his gratitude to the Tamil people, stating that they gave him everything and that his political venture was a way to give back to the community.
