In a jaw-dropping incident at the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), a bowler ended up conceding a staggering 18 runs in just one delivery. The unfortunate event occurred during a match between the Chepauk Super Gillies and the Salem Spartans, held on Tuesday evening.

Abhishek Tanwar, the captain of the Spartans, found himself leaking 18 runs while delivering the final ball of the 20th over, resulting in a total of 26 runs being added to Chepauk’s score of 217/5.

Here’s a breakdown of the sequence of events leading to the 18-run ball:

  1. Until the fifth delivery, Tanwar had given away eight runs.
  2. Tanwar then bowled a no-ball as the fifth delivery.
  3. Following that, he delivered another no-ball, which was smashed for a six by Chepauk’s batsman Sanjay Yadav, resulting in seven runs.
  4. The subsequent ball was also a no-ball, allowing the batsmen to complete two runs, bringing the total to 11 runs.
  5. Tanwar missed his line in the next ball, resulting in a wide.
  6. Finally, the last delivery, which was a legal one, was mercilessly dispatched for a six, elevating the total to 18 runs off a single ball.
  7. “I take full responsibility for the last over—four no-balls as a senior bowler was disappointing. The wind played a significant role and didn’t assist me,”
  8. Tanwar expressed in disappointment after the match.

Unfortunately, the Spartans failed to mount a comeback and could only muster a total of 165/9 in their response, resulting in a 52-run loss.

In the previous edition, Tanwar emerged as the leading wicket-taker, claiming 17 wickets in 9 matches while conceding 240 runs in the 33.5 overs he bowled throughout the tournament.
