Somnath Express Train Accident

Early Saturday at 5:50 AM, two coaches of the Somnath Express derailed just 150 meters from Jabalpur Railway Station in Madhya Pradesh. The Indore-Jabalpur Express (Train No. 22191) was moving at a very slow speed when the derailment occurred. Thankfully, no casualties were reported. Harshit Shrivastava, CPRO of West Central Railway, confirmed that the train was approaching platform number 6 when two front coaches slipped off the tracks. Despite the derailment, all passengers were safely accounted for.

The derailment of the Somnath Express in Jabalpur comes alarmingly close on the heels of the Sabarmati Express accident, which occurred less than a month ago. On August 17, 20 coaches of the Ahmedabad-Varanasi Sabarmati Express derailed near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after a boulder was deliberately placed on the tracks. Tragically, this wasn’t the only recent incident—on July 30, 18 carriages of the Howrah-Mumbai CSMT Mail derailed near Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, leading to two fatalities and 20 injuries.
