Two exemplary government school teachers from Tamil Nadu have been selected for the prestigious National Teachers’ Award by the Union Education Ministry. Among the 50 educators chosen from across the nation, RS Muralidharan from Madurai and R Gopinath from Vellore stand out for their exceptional contributions to education. Muralidharan, a postgraduate vocational teacher at TVS Higher Secondary School, and Gopinath, a secondary-grade teacher at Rajakuppam’s panchayat Union Middle School, will be honored in New Delhi on September 5 for their dedication and impact on students’ lives.

Each year, the Union Education Ministry recognizes the nation’s top educators in government and aided schools with the prestigious National Teachers’ Award. This year, 50 outstanding teachers have been chosen from across India, including two exceptional educators from the state.

Government School Teachers: A Lifetime of Dedication

Speaking to DT Next, 59-year-old RS Muralidharan shared his journey of teaching basic automobile engineering in vocational courses for higher secondary students. With 39 years of experience, Muralidharan finds the greatest satisfaction in seeing his former students excel in their respective fields. He has dedicated his career to transforming education through innovative teaching methods and community engagement. “My focus has been on bridging the gap between theory and practice, providing holistic education to students, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. I have remained committed to ensuring that every student, regardless of socio-economic background, has access to quality education and opportunities for personal growth,” Muralidharan said.
