West Indies’ all-round show, highlighted by Pooran’s batting heroics and the bowlers’ relentless attack, ensured a commanding win in their last group match of the T20 World Cup 2024.
In the middle overs, Afghanistan’s spinners managed to slow down the scoring rate. However, Nicholas Pooran unleashed a flurry of runs towards the end, propelling West Indies to their highest total in T20 World Cup history.
Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Both teams had already secured their spots in the Super Eight stage, but this match determined the top finisher in Group C. Romario Shepherd missed out due to the birth of his second child and will rejoin the squad on Tuesday. Obed McCoy took his place, and Shai Hope replaced Royston Chase. Afghanistan fielded an unchanged lineup.
