Highlights from the Pro Kabaddi Auction 2024: PKL 2024 Season 11- Sold list of Players
The Pro Kabaddi Auction 2024 was a thrilling battleground as 12 teams fiercely competed to secure top-tier talent in PKL 2024 Season 11, Mumbai, on Thursday. This high-stakes event, spread over two days, is set to see more than 500 Kabaddi players go under the hammer.
Pro Kabaddi Auction 2024
On the first day, Sachin Tanwar emerged as the auction’s crown jewel, with Tamil Thalaivas securing his leadership skills after his captaincy of Patna Pirates last season. Iranian powerhouse Mohammadreza Shadloui, who played a pivotal role in Puneri Paltan’s championship win, was snapped up by Haryana Steelers, while his compatriot Fazel Atrachali, formerly with Gujarat Giants, joined Bengal Warriorz.
Each PKL team faces strategic choices, with the rules allowing a minimum of two and a maximum of four overseas players per squad, and squad sizes ranging from 18 to 25 players.
Indian Kabaddi captain Pawan Sehrawat was successfully retained by the Telugu Titans, while the Bengal Warriorz exercised their option to keep star raider, Maninder Singh. The league’s top raider, Pardeep Narwal, who had a challenging season with UP Yoddhas, will aim for redemption with the Bengaluru Bulls, while former Steeler Siddharth Desai will bring his talent to Dabang Delhi KC.
Interestingly, Tamil Thalaivas and UP Yoddhas entered the auction without retaining their elite players, a stark contrast to Bengal Warriorz and Dabang Delhi KC, who chose to release their young talents. Tamil Thalaivas did, however, secure their future by retaining seven promising young players, while Puneri Paltan held onto six, with 12 and 11 players retained, respectively.
On the other hand, Gujarat Giants and Jaipur Pink Panthers opted for a leaner approach, retaining just five players each—the fewest among all 12 teams—giving them plenty of room to make bold moves during the auction.
Highlights of Day 1:
- Sachin Tanwar emerged as the most expensive player of the PKL 2024 auction, fetching a whopping ₹2.15 crore. He will now wear the colors of the Tamil Thalaivas.
- Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh, the Iranian all-rounder, was the second-highest bid of the night, being acquired by Haryana Steelers for ₹2.07 crore.
- Pawan Sehrawat was retained by Telugu Titans for ₹1.725 crore, thanks to their use of the Final Bid Match (FBM) card, ensuring the Indian skipper stays with them.
- Fazel Atrachali, PKL’s most successful defender, was secured by Bengal Warriors in the most economical deal of the night at just ₹50 lakh.
- Pardeep Narwal, the league’s most successful raider, was signed by Bengaluru Bulls for ₹70 lakh.
