World Cup 2023: India to Face Arch-Rivals Pakistan in Draft Schedule

With less than four months remaining until the ODI World Cup, which will be hosted by India, fans are eagerly anticipating the schedule announcement in order to plan their ticket bookings accordingly.

Although the official World Cup schedule is expected to be released this week, the draft schedule has already been unveiled. According to the draft schedule, India will compete against their opponents at nine different venues, commencing their campaign on October 8 against Australia in Chennai. The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match is scheduled to take place on October 15 at the iconic Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.

The final of the ODI World Cup 2023 will also be held at the same venue. However, the draft schedule, as reported by ESPNcricinfo, does not specify an exact venue for the semi-finals, which are scheduled for November 15 and 16.

India’s World Cup schedule based on the draft:

October 8: India vs Australia in Chennai
October 11: India vs Afghanistan in Delhi
October 15: India vs Pakistan in Ahmedabad
October 19: India vs Bangladesh in Pune
October 22: India vs New Zealand in Dharamsala
October 29: India vs England in Lucknow
November 2: India vs qualifier in Mumbai
November 5: India vs South Africa in Kolkata
November 11: India vs qualifier in Bengaluru

In the league phase, Pakistan has matches scheduled at five different venues:

October 10: Pakistan vs qualifier in Hyderabad
October 12: Pakistan vs qualifier in Hyderabad
October 15: Pakistan vs India in Ahmedabad
October 20: Pakistan vs Australia in Bengaluru
October 23: Pakistan vs Afghanistan in Chennai
October 27: Pakistan vs South Africa in Chennai
October 31: Pakistan vs Bangladesh in Kolkata
November 5: Pakistan vs New Zealand in Bengaluru
November 12: Pakistan vs England in Kolkata

Notable matches include Australia vs New Zealand on October 29 in Dharamsala, Australia vs England on November 4 in Ahmedabad, and New Zealand vs South Africa on November 1 in Pune.

There has been a significant delay in unveiling the World Cup schedule, considering that the tournament will kick off in less than four months. The schedules for the previous two editions, held in 2015 and 2019, were determined more than a year in advance. Additionally, two teams will participate from the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup Qualifiers, which will take place in Zimbabwe.
