Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi) emphasized that the public prefers meaningful discussions over drama and empty slogans in Parliament. Ahead of the 18th Lok Sabha’s first session, he urged the opposition to be responsible and focus on substantial debates instead of mere rhetoric. “India needs a responsible opposition. People desire substance, not slogans; they want debates and diligence, not disruptions in Parliament,” he stated.

PM Modi: A New Beginning for Parliamentarians

Welcoming the newly elected members, PM Modi marked the day as a pivotal moment in India’s democratic journey. As a representative of Varanasi, he stressed the session’s importance in moving towards the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India). Reflecting on the recent elections, Modi remarked, “India conducted the world’s largest elections with great enthusiasm, a proud moment. This election was particularly significant as, for the second time since independence, a government has been re-elected for a third consecutive term.”

Remembering the Emergency

Modi also highlighted the 50th anniversary of the Emergency on June 25, describing it as a dark chapter in India’s democracy when the Constitution was ignored. “Tomorrow is June 25. For those committed to upholding the Indian Constitution and democratic traditions, it is a day that cannot be forgotten. It marks 50 years since the dark period in Indian democracy when the Constitution was rejected, destroyed, and the country was turned into a prison through the declaration of Emergency,” he said.

Commitment to Hard Work

Assuring the nation of his government’s dedication, PM Modi declared, “I want to reassure the people that our government will work three times harder in its third term and deliver three times more.” He also recognized the significant presence of young parliamentarians, emphasizing their crucial role in shaping the nation’s future.

The Road Ahead

The first session, running until July 3, is expected to outline PM Modi’s plans for his third term. It is also anticipated to see the formal appointment of Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of the Opposition, a role vacant since 2014.
